En comparant ses profils de plong\u00e9e, il constata que lorsqu\u2019il remontait avec des poissons, il s\u2019arr\u00eatait r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement une \u00e0 deux minutes au cours de la remont\u00e9e afin que les poissons puissent lib\u00e9rer une partie du gaz contenu dans leur vessie natatoire, chose essentielle \u00e0 leur survie. De mani\u00e8re empirique, Richard Pyle adoptait la proc\u00e9dure suivante :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Calcul normal de sa d\u00e9saturation et d\u00e9termination de la profondeur du premier palier ;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Arr\u00eat d\u2019une ou deux minutes \u00e0 mi-distance entre le dernier palier profond et le premier palier propos\u00e9 par le protocole de d\u00e9saturation ;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recalcul de la d\u00e9saturation en int\u00e9grant le temps du palier profond dans le temps de plong\u00e9e et ainsi de suite jusqu\u2019\u00e0 atteindre la zone des 10 m.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ce proc\u00e9d\u00e9 empirique, qui n&rsquo;a jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 valid\u00e9 scientifiquement ni mod\u00e9lis\u00e9, a \u00e9t\u00e9 int\u00e9gr\u00e9 en option dans certains algorithmes d\u2019ordinateurs de plong\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Controverse<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trois publications scientifiques, dont une de la Marine nationale fran\u00e7aise (2005) et une autre de l&rsquo;US-Navy (2011),  ont conduit \u00e0 conclure \u00e0 la dangerosit\u00e9 de cette approche, au moins pour les plong\u00e9es \u00e0 l&rsquo;air :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.plongee-plaisir.com\/fr\/download\/25078\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Blatteau J.-E., Hugon M., Gardette B., Galland F.-M.,\u00a0<em>Protocoles de d\u00e9compression pour la plong\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019air int\u00e9grant des paliers profonds<\/em>, Bulletin de m\u00e9decine subaquatique et hyperbare, 2005, pp 85-91<\/a> (Avec la permission de MedSubHyp \u2013 Courtesy MedSubHyp \u2013 Pr Jacques Regnard Pr\u00e9sident).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.plongee-plaisir.com\/fr\/download\/23136\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Doolette D.J. ; Gerth W.A. ; Gault K.A.,\u00a0<em>Redistribution of decompression stop time from shallow to deep stops increases incidence of decompression sickness in air decompression dives<\/em>, Navy Experimental Diving Unit (NEDU), 2011<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.diveresearch.org\/download\/Publicaties\/1.%20Artikelen\/Bubble%20formation%20+%20watermerk.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nico A.M.
