Aspirin and diving
EMERGENCY ASPIRIN IS LIKE CAPRI: IT’S OVER!
Aspirin is no longer part of the diving rescue procedure.
By adopting this position in France, we are (finally!) joining the procedure followed throughout the world.
On the one hand, from a regulatory point of view, aspirin is a medication which does not benefit from any exemption to be administered or even offered as relief (unlike oxygen). As a backup, for people who are not doctors, the fact of offering or administering a medication (including aspirin) other than oxygen constitutes an offense subject to criminal and civil prosecution.
On the other hand, on a medical level, there are other anti-platelet aggregants. We must therefore let the medical teams adopt their own protocol on a case-by-case basis (having taken aspirin can then constitute a nuisance).
Thus, in its resolution20/0035 of the CDN of February 2020, the FFESSM has removed aspirin from its first aid standards (the fact that the mention “aspirin” exists in the sports code evacuation sheet is not intended for first aid workers).
Consequently, aspirin is no longer part of the compulsory diving first aid kit, the contents of which are left open (art. R322-4 of the sports code).
Pleasure Diving Information Sheet
Rescue procedure for recreational diving
The Plongée Plaisir information sheet on the rescue procedure in recreational diving, presented in the Plongée Plaisir books, is now available in PDF.
It includes the abandonment of aspirin as a diving aid in France (as in the whole world). Information regarding coronavirus and relief is also provided.
